One of the most popular Art Festivals in the region, this Mother's Day tradition features a variety of contemporary artists, fine unique crafts, even fashion and home décor artisans. Helldorado Days Parade

Description:

The Helldorado Days Parade, formerly known as the Las Vegas Days Parade, or simply Helldorado, is held in mid-May each year and celebrates the city’s western roots. The parade usually includes floats, high school marching bands, cowboys and cowgirls on horseback, costumed dancers, car clubs, nonprofits and more. In past years, an independent panel of judges decided on the award winners for the best entry, most creative, best theme, best float, best equestrian entry, best car club or motorized vehicle, best marching band and best walking group. The parade was created in 1935 and is sponsored by the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial.

May 15, 2025, is the 120th anniversary of the land auction in 1905, which marks the beginning of Las Vegas. For more information on the Helldorado Days Parade, call 702.229.4859.

Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko in Concert

Description:

See, hear, and experience the intensely dramatic sounds and power of Japanese drumming as the Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko presents an earthshaking concert of traditional songs and contemporary pieces.

Formed in 1993 by George Goto and Doug Muraoka under the name “Las Vegas Taiko” (LVT), George served as the drum maker and Doug was the director. After practicing on tires and building their own drums, LVT became Las Vegas Kaminari Taiko (LVKT) because of the impressive thunderous sounds the drums made.

The group, which is part of the Las Vegas chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, has spent over 20 years performing all over Southern Nevada at schools, conventions, casinos, and community festivals. Under the direction and instruction of Jennifer Caballero, LVKT music balances the traditional roots of taiko with modern sounds and influences. Members consists of students and performers of all ages.

Special guests include students from Kristi Toguchi's Aerial Fitness.

Please note that the drums will be loud. For those with sensitive hearing, please bring your own earplugs or noise-canceling headphones.

Free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and may be limited.

Bee-utiful Sunflower Run

Description:

Even on the darkest days, sunflowers stand tall and find the sunlight. As J.R. Rim put it, “Sunflowers end up facing the sun, but they go through a lot of dirt to find their way.” Beyond Limits Running is proud to present the 4th Annual Bee-utiful Sunflower Run/Walk on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the iconic 100-year-old Gilcrease Orchard.

The event, which consists of a 5K at 8:00 AM or 6:30 AM, 10K at 6:30 AM and a Sunflower Family Walk at 9:00 AM, takes place just as the course-side sunflowers are in full bloom at the Orchard. In addition to receiving a glossy sunflower themed finisher’s medal when crossing through a massive sunflower themed finishing arch, everyone receives a large fresh cut sunflower, a starter packet of sunflower seeds, a sunflower bumper sticker, sunflower tattoos and a sunflower fairy charm.

There will be 5 professional photo-op stations, including 2 new photo-op display stations in the Sunflower Fairy Field, 2 mid-course action shot locations and a family portrait station. Downloads of all professional race photos are free & distributed same day!

The timing is perfect as you can present mom or grandma a freshly cut massive sunflower on Mother’s Day. To ensure an exceptional and memorable “course congested free experience” for everyone, including runners, walkers and stroller pushing mommies, events no longer overlap.

Besides running and walking amongst massive rows of smiling sunflowers, you’ll also run past apples, pears, peaches, cucumbers, sweet potato, squash, eggplant and of course the famous Gilcrease Orchard pumpkins as they start their journey towards Halloween. Since the 3.1 mile flat and fast course meanders through the entire 67-acre orchard, runners and walkers will have a chance to get say hello to the resident chickens, tortoises, bees and owls without worrying about traffic or public interference.
