Description:
A lecture series that examines the history of our city and the people, places, and things that make Vegas our home.
The Tropicana, once known as the “Tiffany of the Strip,” will close its doors on April 2 to make way for a Major League Baseball stadium. David Schwartz, writer, gaming historian, and UNLV Ombuds, will discuss the hotel’s history from its swinging midcentury glory as one of the most lavish hotels on the Strip to its mob connections to the A-list entertainment, including the Folies Bergere for 50 years.

Park & Ride
Park at the city of Las Vegas parking garage, 500 S. Main St., and take the FREE shuttle to and from First Friday. The shuttle runs from 3 p.m. to midnight. Additional parking at 1000 Commerce Street and 902 South Casino Center Blvd.

We offer parking throughout downtown that you can reserve in advance. Reserve a spot.

Please join us for an evening with Tananarive Due, award-winning author, screenwriter, and scholar. This program is co-presented by the Program on Race, Gender, and Policing at the William S. Boyd School of Law, as part of their Black Legal Futurism conference.
Tananarive Due Bio: (tah-nah-nah-REEVE doo) is an award-winning author who teaches Black Horror and Afrofuturism at UCLA. She is an executive producer on Shudder’s groundbreaking documentary Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror. She and her husband/collaborator, Steven Barnes, wrote “A Small Town” for Season 2 of Jordan Peele’s “The Twilight Zone” on Paramount Plus, and two segments of Shudder’s anthology film Horror Noire. They also co-wrote their upcoming Black Horror graphic novel The Keeper, illustrated by Marco Finnegan. Due and Barnes co-host a podcast, “Lifewriting: Write for Your Life!”
A leading voice in Black speculative fiction for more than 20 years, Due has won an American Book Award, an NAACP Image Award, and a British Fantasy Award, and her writing has been included in best-of-the-year anthologies. Her books include The Reformatory, Ghost Summer: Stories, My Soul to Keep, and The Good House. She and her late mother, civil rights activist Patricia Stephens Due, co-authored Freedom in the Family: A Mother-Daughter Memoir of the Fight for Civil Rights. She and her husband live with their son, Jason.

The UNLV Jazz Concert Series features performances by exceptional groups from the UNLV School of Music, Division of Jazz and Commercial Music.
These student musicians have received over twenty DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards since 2010 which is considered among the highest recognition in Jazz education worldwide. UNLV Jazz ensembles and combos have performed at the acclaimed Monterey Jazz Festival, Village Vanguard and other notable venues throughout the nation. They have garnered ten consecutive outstanding CD reviews 2010-2019 from the respected publication, Jazz Times, and alumni perform internationally with distinguished ensembles including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, directed by Wynton Marsalis; the Count Basie Orchestra; and many others.
